DAY 5 - FINAL DAY AT DOCKLANDS
The last
day has arrived so quickly. After breakfast, the bags were packed and placed on
the bus with our young troops moving like a well-oiled machine. We teachers are
very proud of the way students have conducted themselves on this trip, being
well-behaved and using impeccable manners. There have been many positive
comments from venue organisers and the general public at all the places we have
visited. Our students are great ambassadors for Townsville Grammar School.
Our first
stop today was ice skating. The Icehouse Complex was built in 2010 at cost of
$16M. It features two Olympic-sized rinks, one of which has been fitted for
viewing ice hockey. We arrived to see what can only be described as champions
of the future, practising graceful moves on the ice. Groups were assembled for
a coaching lesson by professional coaches and then skills were tested on the
Bradbury ice rink (named after Australia’s first Winter Olympic gold medalist,
Steven Bradbury).
In Term 4,
students will be studying a Geography unit on liveability. Students were able
to view the world’s most liveable city from 120 metres above the ground in the
Melbourne Star. The Star is one of only four giant observation wheels in the
world, rotating very slowly – one revolution every 30 minutes.
